Utility Labourer Jobs UK
Utility labourers and groundworkers are the backbone of every UK civils and streetworks project. Utiliteasy lists live labouring roles for operatives with CSCS, NRSWA and the right safety tickets to get on site fast.
What's involved
Hand-digging around live services, breaking out, backfilling, reinstating, and supporting jointers, splicers and engineers on telecoms, water, gas and power schemes. Work is hands-on and site-based across both urban streetworks and rural civils.
Tickets you'll need
A CSCS Labourer card is the usual minimum asked for. For work in the public highway you'll need the SWQR operative units covering your activities — typically LA and O1, plus the excavation and reinstatement units (O2-O8) your works involve. Manual Handling and Asbestos Awareness are routinely asked for. Confined Space if working in chambers or trenches over 1.2m.
Pay and progression
Labourer day rates typically sit at £130–£180/day depending on region and shift pattern. Operatives with full NRSWA, climbing or jointing tickets progress quickly to skilled rates of £200/day+.
