LV vs HV jointing
LV jointers work on low-voltage networks (up to 1kV) — distribution mains, service connections and disconnections. HV jointers work on 11kV/33kV/132kV transmission and distribution. Both require formal training and continuous on-the-job assessment.
Required accreditations
NCO (National Competency Operative) covers most LV jointing work for the major DNOs. NCSP covers more advanced HV jointing. Many DNOs also require their own internal authorisations, which delivery partners renew on programme.
Day rates
LV jointers typically £220–£280/day, HV jointers £280–£400/day, and senior HV jointers with full NCSP on cable replacement programmes can exceed this on framework contracts.
