Contractor Insurance Guide
Insurance is one of the first things a delivery partner asks for at framework onboarding. This guide covers the typical cover levels expected of utility contractors operating in the UK.
Public Liability
Most utility frameworks require £5m Public Liability cover as a minimum, with some requiring £10m for higher-risk work (HV, gas, principal contractor).
Employers' Liability
Statutory £5m minimum — but most utility clients expect £10m. Required for any business employing labour (including PAYE-equivalent CIS arrangements).
Professional Indemnity
Required for design work and surveys — typically £1m–£5m depending on contract value. Often overlooked but increasingly checked at onboarding.
