Mains layers run the country's water and gas distribution networks. Utiliteasy lists live mains laying work from utility contractors operating on framework agreements with water companies and gas distribution networks.
Water mains
Work covers new main lays, replacement, service connections, valve installation and pressure testing — to WIRSPS, NRSWA and the water company's own technical standards. EUSR Water Hygiene (Blue Card) is required for any work on potable water systems.
Gas mains
Gas mains work is heavily regulated and requires SHEA-Gas plus operator-specific authorisations (Cadent, Northern Gas Networks, SGN, Wales & West Utilities). MP4 and HSE-managed pipeline programmes have additional accreditation requirements.
